To ensure that East Chicago students have the best opportunities possible to discover their potential, we award scholarships to residents in two categories:
- Adults undertaking continuing education
- High School Seniors who are graduating this academic year
Further information about these scholarship types:
Continuing Education Scholarship Application — The Foundations of East Chicago, Inc. (FEC) has made available $10,000 for (1) One-Time scholarship awards for East Chicago residents who meet the following criteria:
- » You are currently attending an accredited post secondary educational institution, or
- » You are planning to attend an accredited post secondary educational institution during the 2009 - 2010 academic year.
- » You are not currently receiving a scholarship from either the Twin City Education Foundation or the Foundations of East Chicago.
The maximum amount that can be awarded any winner is $1,000.
In addition to the criteria listed above, each applicant MUST comply with the following requirements:
- Be a graduate of an accredited high school with a high school diploma or have received a G.E.D. The student must provide a copy of a high school transcript and/or G.E.D. diploma.
- Have a minimum average from the last educational institution (high school or college) you attended full or part-time. You must provide a copy of your last transcript from that institution.
- Be registered at an accredited post secondary educational institution (proof of acceptance and registration must be provided to the Foundation before scholarship dollars are dispersed).
- Have exhibited qualities of high character and integrity.
- Be an East Chicago resident for at least one year prior to date of this application. You must be able to provide proof of residency.
- Complete the formal scholarship application along with all necessary verification.
- Submit three (3) Recommendation Forms that show evidence of character, leadership, and/or community service.
- Compose a 300-word essay indicating why you should be selected to receive the FEC Scholarship and how you will use this opportunity to serve as a positive role model for others in our community.
- List all scholarships you are currently receiving and scholarships you have applied for. This includes any tuition assistance you may receive from your employer.
- If applicable, provide the Scholarship Committee with a copy of your FAFSA Report.

Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
After you have determined if you qualify, please complete the application along with all required attachments and submit them to the Foundations of East Chicago office which is located at 905 West Chicago Avenue, East Chicago, IN 46312.
High School Scholarship Application
The Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) will award thirty (30), One Year scholarships. The Scholarship amounts are as follows:

In order for a student to be eligible for one of the above listed scholarships, an applicant MUST comply with the following requirements:
- Be a resident of the City of East Chicago.
- Be a student of an accredited high school in good standing and eligible to receive a high school diploma at the end of the 2008-2009 Academic year.
- Have a minimum 2.50 cumulative G.P.A. for your high school career. (You must provide a copy of your latest transcript with your completed application.)
- Be registered at an accredited post secondary educational institution (Proof of acceptance and registration must be provided to the Foundation before scholarship dollars will be dispersed).
- Be involved in school and community leadership activities.
- Have exhibited qualities of high character and integrity.
- Complete the formal scholarship application along with all necessary verification.
- Submit three (3) Recommendation Forms that show evidence of character, leadership, and or community service.
- Compile a 300-word essay indicating why you should be selected to receive the FEC Scholarship and how you will use this opportunity to serve as a positive role model for other students.
- List all other scholarships for which you have applied.
- Provide the Scholarship Committee with a copy of your FAFSA Report.
- Be available for a formal interview with the Scholarship Committee. Interviews will occur between April 30th and May 2nd. You will be notified of your interview time and location after April 2nd.
Incomplete applications will not be accepted. Applications are due by 4:00p.m on April 2nd, 2009.
