Scholarship program

To ensure that East Chicago students have the best opportunities possible to discover their potential, we award scholarships to residents in three categories:
(1) Adults undertaking continuing education
(2) Students at East Chicago Central High School
(3) Students at other high schools in East Chicago

    Further information about these scholarship types:

    (1) Adults in continuing education — we award scholarships up to $1000 in value which are one-time, non-renewable.

After you have determined if you qualify, the actual applications are available by inquiring in person at the office of Foundations of East Chicago, 905 West Chicago Avenue, East Chicago, IN 46312.

        (2) High School Scholarship Application - The Foundations of East Chicago (FEC) will award thirty (30), one year scholarships. The Scholarship amounts are as follows:

        —Scholarship Amounts and Availability—

      • Amount - $ 6,000  Number Available - Three (3)
      • Amount - $ 2,500  Number Available - Ten (10)
      • Amount - $ 1,500  Number Avaliable - Seventeen (17)

        In order for a student to be eligible for one of the above listed scholarships, an applicant MUST comply with the following requirements:

      1. Be a resident of the City of East Chicago.
      2. Be a student of an accredited high school in good standing and eligible to receive a high school diploma at the end of the 2007-2008 Academic year.
      3. Have a minimum 2.50 cumulative G.P.A. for your high school career. (You must provide a copy of your latest transcript with your completed application.)
      4. Be registered at an accredited post secondary educational institution (Proof of acceptance and registration must be provided to the Foundation before scholarship dollars will be dispersed).
      5. Be involved in school and community leadership activities.
      6. Have exhibited qualities of high character and integrity.
      7. Complete the formal scholarship application along with all necessary verification.
      8. Submit three (3) letters of recommendation that show evidence of character, leadership, and or community service.
      9. Compile a 300-word essay indicating why you should be selected to receive the FEC Scholarship and how you will use this opportunity to serve as a positive role model for other students.
      10. List all other scholarships for which you have applied.
      11. Provide the Scholarship Committee with a copy of your FAFSA Report.
      12. Be available for a formal interview with the Scholarship Committee. Time and location of the interviews will be provided at a later date.
      13. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
